Check an APK Before You Install

Use the app guide as a starting point, then check the source and the file you actually receive. These steps reduce uncertainty; they do not certify an APK as safe.

Page updated

Start with the source

Read the final website address after any redirect. Compare the publisher, support contact and privacy information with the source identified in the app guide.

A matching name or logo can be copied. HTTPS protects the connection; it does not establish who published the app or endorse its contents.

Match the app and file

Compare any published package name, version, release date and file details with the intended download. The package name is Android’s app identifier; the display name alone is not unique.

If the source does not establish these details, treat the identity as unresolved rather than filling the gaps from a similarly named app.

Read warnings and permissions

Keep Google Play Protect enabled. It checks for potentially harmful apps from Google Play and other sources and may warn, block or remove an app.

Read a warning before continuing. Review requests for access to messages, contacts, files or accessibility controls against the feature you intend to use. Do not disable device protection just to make an installation succeed.

Check an update separately

Use the intended publisher’s update route. Android checks the package and signing identity when deciding whether a file can update an installed app.

If an update conflicts, ask for the matching file before uninstalling the existing app. Confirm account recovery and back up any local progress you can preserve.

Understand what a check proves

A source page, file signature or scan result answers only part of the question. A familiar publisher name or a scan without a warning does not guarantee that a file is harmless or that its service claims are accurate.

This directory’s published-source review is not a security test of the APK delivered to your device.

Questions & answers

Does an app guide mean its download was scanned?

No. The guide summarises public sources. Do not treat its presence in the directory as a scan report or a test of the file served by another website.

Should I remove my installed app to fix an update conflict?

Not as the first step. Confirm the correct update with the publisher and check account and local-data recovery before uninstalling or clearing app storage.
